Our Contribution

Sustainability is more than a promise for us. We develop premium solutions with high-quality materials that are produced in an environmentally friendly way for resource-efficient further processing. We consider the entire process chain of our products – from production through processing to use by consumers.

Minimal impact – maximum effect: The decorative layer of hot stamping is extremely thin and makes up less than one percent of the total packaging. This keeps the recyclability of the final product fully intact while providing high-quality visual differentiation.
5,000
Embossings
The aluminum layer of a hot stamping foil is 5,000 times thinner than a human hair. This shows how effective design can be when resources are used consciously.
100%
Recyclable
Products finished with hot stamping remain fully recyclable, as only varnish and decoration layers are transferred – but not the PET carrier.

What's in a hot stamping foil?

The material consists of several ultra-thin layers: a recyclable PET carrier, an extremely fine metal layer, and varnishes, inks, and adhesives that do not impair recyclability. During the finishing process, no carrier material remains on the product – only the design remains. This intelligent material combination enables high-quality appearance and haptics while ensuring resource-efficient further processing.

Facts about hot stamping

Compared to other finishing technologies, hot stamping is significantly more environmentally friendly and at the same time a particularly efficient surface finishing process. It enables emission-free processes, minimal energy consumption, and uses only ultra-thin material layers. Correctly designed packaging remains fully recyclable as no composite material is created. At the same time, hot stamping provides durable decorations with brilliant appearance.

Our contribution to sustainable packaging design

We combine design competence with sustainable responsibility. Our finishing technologies do not impair recyclability and create decorations with minimal environmental impact. Together with brands and producers, we develop packaging concepts that meet highest aesthetic standards while being environmentally compatible. From material and color consulting to testing and process optimization, we accompany projects holistically – for sustainable packaging solutions with impressive impact.

FAQ

Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about our services.

Why is hot stamping considered a sustainable surface finishing process?

Hot stamping works solvent-free, low-emission, and energy-efficient – without kilns or elaborate wet processes. Only an ultra-thin aluminum layer is transferred, which barely matters in recycling. This way, the process combines design impact with responsibility and enables high-quality decoration with low resource input.

How does packaging with hot stamping finishing remain recyclable?

With hot stamping, only the fine metal layer is transferred from the carrier film – the PET carrier remains and is recycled separately or thermally recovered.
Since the metal layer is only a few nanometers thin, the sorting and recyclability of the packaging is maintained, provided decoration area and color do not impair NIR detection.
Hot stampings are thus considered recycling-compatible when used within design-for-recycling guidelines.

What advantages do brands and producers have through hot stamping?

Hot stamping stands for efficiency, process reliability, and brand impact.
The technology reduces energy consumption compared to alternative finishing processes, enables stable processes with low waste rates, and convinces with precise, brilliant results.
Brands benefit from a sustainable premium appearance achieved without additional varnish layers or chemical processes.

What role does hot stamping play regarding the new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR)?

The PPWR requires recyclable packaging from 2030 and clear proof of material compatibility.
Hot stampings already support these goals today, as the ultra-thin decoration layer does not impair the sorting and recyclability of the base material.
In combination with current RecyClass Design-for-Recycling Guidelines, packaging with hot stamping finishing can be designed PPWR-compliant.

How does Peyer Decor support customers on "Design for Recycling"?

We accompany our customers from idea to series approval.
This includes:
- Consulting on material compatibility of foils and substrates (PP, PE, PET, paper, etc.)
- Tests and validations according to international standards such as RecyClass or CEFLEX
- Optimization of decorations for maximum recyclability and design impact
- Provision of documentation and evidence for brand audits and compliance requirements
This creates packaging that aesthetically convinces, is regulatorily safe, and recyclable.
